Firing on Joint Road kills Ali Muhammad.
QUETTA, May 24th , 2012: Terrorists target-killed a Hazara on Joint Road in early hours of this morning. The victim was in his mid 40s who has been identified as Ali Muhammad Hazara and the resident of Hazara Town. The victim received multiple bullet injuries in his head, neck and chest.
“A 9mm pistol was used in the act while the victim was shot at the blank-point range”, said a doctor who was involved in post-mortem.
The ongoing targeted attacks in parts of Quetta city are mostly blamed on the terrorists of Lashker-e-Jhangvi which mainly targets the Hazaras. Last month, six terrorists of Lashker-e-Jhangvi and the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were arrested with prohibited guns and hand grenades in two different incidents whose whereabouts is unknown while the government’s silence on the matter reveals her apathy and negligence.
Ali Muhammad Hazara will be laid to rest in Hazara Town Graveyard amid sorrows and awe.

Unknown terrorists shot dead Amir Muhammad on Sariab Road Quetta.
QUETTA, May 24th , 2012: Amir Muhammad has become the latest victim of unending ethno-religious targeted attacks in Quetta when unknown armed men gunned him down in Killi Chakar Khan, Seriab Road on Thursday, 24th May, 2012. The victim was later identified as a Hazara. No one has been arrested as yet while the police authorities have put off the case terming it an issue of targeted killings.
No one had claimed the responsibility of the attack till submitting this report; however, preceding cases have manifested the elements of religiously-motivated fanaticism. The prime targets of these attacks in Quetta have always been the Hazaras who have suffered heavy casualties at the hands of the terrorist organisation Lashker-e-Jhangvi.

Assault on police van leaves two security officials dead and two others injured.
QUETTA, May 17th , 2012: A police van of Brewery police station came under severe firing from unknown motorcycle riders on Kirani Road, Quetta. The van was on its routine patrolling when unknown armed men assaulted it with automatic AK 47 guns killing two police officials on the spot and leaving two others severely injured. The policemen who have lost their lives have been identified as sepoy Sana Ullah and Ghulam Murtaza while Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Hussain Hazara and Din Muhammad were critically injured.
The victims have been shifted to the Balon Medical College while law enforcement agencies and security personnel arrived at the scene immediately to cordon off the area for further investigation.
It must be remembered that the security agencies managed to gun down two high value terrorists of Lashker-e-Jhangvi in exchange of fire on western bypass road who were later identified as Ali Sher Haideri, the spokesman Lashker-e-Jhangvi, and his accomplice. Later, LeJ recognized the slain terrorists as essential members of their syndicate and vowed to take vengeance.
Today’s attack on policemen traces its connection to LeJ who also claimed the responsibility while talking to local media.

Two Hazaras target-killed on Joint Road, Quetta.
QUETTA, May 15th , 2012:Today, two Hazaras were target-killed on Joint Road in a terrorist attack.
According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists were already standing at the cycle-stand/parking lot of the Regional Passport Office for the Hazaras to arrive. The Regional Passport Office is routinely crowded and busy with the people who throng in to get their queries resolved regarding obtaining of a new passport, its renewal and submitting further documents to support their applications. A large number of them include the Pashtun while Hazaras who wish to obtain or renew their passports will have to stand in a long queue outside its office’s main entrance. There were over 300 people in the queue but the terrorists started targeted the Hazaras with 9mm pistols which caused a stampede making others run for their lives. Two hapless Hazaras, who have been identified as Sajjad Ali and Muhammad Tahir became the victims of targeted attack and lost their lives. The terrorists chanted inflammatory and anti-Shi’ite slogans after killing the people. They left the scene after the shooting while no arrest had been until pressing this report.
Their bodies were immediately shifted to Nichari Imam Bargah for burial.
Sadiq Ali, an eyewitness revealed, “They were totally unaware as to what was going to happen next. He arrived at the passport office when a long queue was already ahead of him. He had arrived there by a rickshaw was standing in the queue and while talking to his friend on the phone, the firing erupted at a distance of 10-15 meters before him. He ran hysterically to save his life. He didn’t return to the scene again but later he heard that two Hazaras have been shot dead”. He insisted, “The cycle-stand owner must be interrogated in connection with this mishap as he (the cycle-stand owner) was talking to the terrorists prior to their arrival”. “All is hand in glove in our killings” he said uncontrollably. He continued, “The government has not arranged any security at this public office which must be manned by armed policemen or members of para-military troops of Frontier Corps”.
Lashker-e-Jhangvi claimed the responsibility of the attack.

One person shot dead at Pod Killi Chowk Quetta.
QUETTA, May 1st , 2012: A local businessman has become the latest victim of targeted killing in Quetta who was shot dead at Pod Killi Chowk. The victim has been identified as Haji Zaheer a Shi’ite of Alamdar Road.
“Unknown armed men opened fire on this poor man at Pod Killi Chowk who died on the spot while the terrorists fled the scene”, an eye witnesses explained about the incident on condition of anonymity. He said, “The terrorists came on a motorcycle and opened targeted fire on the victim and ran away”. The victim died of multiple gunshot wounds to his neck and chest and head.
It is pertinent to mention that about two years ago, the victim’s two young sons fell victims to targeted killing in Kashmirabad, leaving him completely devastated and heart-broken.
His dead body has been shifted to Alamdar Road for funeral who will be buried in Hazar Graveyard tomorrow.
Until submitting this report, no one had claimed responsibility of the attack while the annals reveal that the previous attacks were carried out by Laskher-e-Jhangvi.
Last month, 23 Hazaras lost their lives in several incidents of targeted attacks in Quetta while 5 others were critically injured. The para-military troops of the Frontier Corps with the cooperation of the locals, arrested three (3) terrorists of Lashker-e-Jhangvi red-handedly from Hazara Town, Brewery when they fail to escape after shooting two brothers dead and leaving a local politician seriously injured. Immediately, they were shifted to undisclosed location for further investigation but so far the provincial government and the law enforcement agencies are vaguely silent to reveal a break-through about the hideouts of terrorists in the suburb of Quetta.
In a subsequent incident, three highly dangerous terrorists were arrested from Hazara Graveyard, Hazara Town on 22nd April who have been confirmed to belong to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the member of Lashker-e-Jhangvi. Hand grenades, 9mm pistols and maps of the area were also recovered from the terrorists.
A day later, the Brewery police managed to kill the spokesman of Lashker-e-Jhangvi Ali Sher Haideri and his accomplice in western bypass on 23rd April.

Sipaha-e-Sahaba Pakistan’s attempt of sectarian incitement foiled in Quetta.
QUETTA, April 26th , 2012: The newly formed Difa-e-Pakistan Council had recently announced to organise public gatherings in all big cities of the country in order to start mass-mobilisation campaign against the government’s pro-American policies. In such attempt to gain support of people in Balochistan, they announced to hold a general gathering of people on Mizan Chowk on Thursday, the 26th April.
Different participating organisations and religious groups had staged camps on Mizan Chowk with hoisting flags and anthems to exhibit their support mainly for the Taliban. Prior to the start of public meeting, the members of Sipaha-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) started chanting inflammatory slogans against the Shi’ites. The scheme could have incited sectarian violence had the Shi’ite leaders on the scene not restrained the youth from retaliation. Realising about the gravity of the situation, the Shi’ite leaders promptly started contacting the high-ups of law enforcement agencies including Inspector General of Police, Capital City Police Officer, DIG Operations and the provincial interior minister who phones were constantly switched off. Subsequently, a leader of the Quetta Yekjehti Council phoned up a colonel of frontier corps who assured them of necessary action against the miscreants which resulted in cooling off the youth.
It must be remembered that Sipaha-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) is an extremist organisation which was banned by the Musharraf regime but the ban soon proved to have no virtual effect on them in that the above-said extremist organisation changed its name to Ahle Sunnat wa Al-Jamaat. Sipaha-e-Sahaba Pakistan follows the Deobandi school of thought with orthodox views on Islam and its injunctions while declaring the Shi’ites as infidels.
Difa-e-Pakistan Council (Pakistan Defence Council) was formed few months ago by renowned extremist stalwarts and die-hard Taliban supporters to muster up sympathy for religious organisations. At the forefront, General Hamid Gul, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Maulana Sami-ul-Haq and Ijaz-ul-Haq etc always remained vocal critics of government’s support for providing logistics to the US and its allies. Many a times, General Hamid Gul had boastfully favoured the Group of representing the bulk of the Pakistani society including the Shi’ite organisations, however, the Shi’ites distanced themselves from such alliance from beginning in that most extremist groups, who are proactively involved in sectarian violence and Shi’ite killings in Pakistan, had also joined it.

Two high value terrorists shot dead in police encounter in Quetta
QUETTA, April 24th , 2012: Two high value terrorists of Lashker-e-Jhangvi were gunned down in exchange of fires with the local police and members of Anti-Terrorists Force (ATF). The fierce firing erupted when the police tried to stop a suspicious vehicle. The terrorists opened severe firing with AK 47 guns on Brewery police and the elite police commando. A police constable Riaz received bullet injuries but his condition is stable.
After engaging the law enforcement agencies in severe fire exchange, the terrorists accelerated the speed of the vehicle to flee the scene who were killed in cross-firing. Both the terrorists have been identified as most wanted members of Laskher-e-Jhangvi. Ali Sher Haideri, an outlaw and the spokesman of the extremist outfit, wanted in numerous cases of sectarian violence; is among the dead.
The Chief Minister Balochistan has announced Rs. 5,00,000 cash reward for the policemen and ATF employees who participated in the operation while Lashker-e-Jhangvi vowed to take revenge of its accomplices in a telephone call to local press club.
It must be mentioned that the Frontier Corps with the help of local people had apprehended three terrorists of Lashker-e-Jhangvi red-handedly from Brewery on 21st of the month who engaged in two different incidents of targeted killings and were trying to flee the scenes. The following day three other terrorists, who had recently moved from Karachi to Quetta for major terrorist activities; were arrested from Hazara graveyard, Hazara Town Quetta. In the latter instance, two of the terrorists have been recognized as Dost Muhammad Masood and Alam Masood of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) while the third is a member of the banned terrorist organisation Lashker-e-Jhangvi.
All the six terrorists, who were arrested in the last two days, have been moved to an undisclosed location for investigation and the people hope that the law enforcement agencies will break the terrorists’ network in Quetta if they are interrogated fairly.

Three terrorists apprehended from Hazara graveyard, Hazara Town, Quetta
QUETTA, April 22th , 2012: The law enforcement agencies including the Frontier Corps have arrested three highly dangerous terrorists from Hazara graveyard, Hazara Town, Quetta. Reliable sources have confirmed that two of the terrorists belong to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the third one belongs to Lashker-e-Jhangvi (LeJ). Intelligence source, on condition of anonymity, revealed the names of the TTP terrorists such as Dost Muhammad Masood and Alam Masood and said that they had recently arrived from Karachi to execute a major terrorist activity in Hazara-inhabited areas.
It must be remembered that the local residents of Brewery had foiled the escape of three terrorists yesterday, who after partaking in two different incidents of ethno-religious violence, tried to flee but they were cornered by the people. Later, the police and frontier corps officials nabbed the perpetrators and shifted them to a secure place for investigation.

Terrorists target killed two brothers and seriously injured another citizen in two different incidents on Brewery Road
QUETTA, April 21th , 2012: Two brothers have been shot dead on Brewery Road, Quetta who were on a motorbike. The terrorists have targeted the victims who were on their way to Hazara Town, Brewery Quetta. The slain people have been identified as Boman Ali and Hussain Ali who hail from Hazara nation and the residents of Hazara Town. The terrorists shot them at point-blank range with 9mm pistols. The unfortunate victims succumb to injuries and died on the spot.
In a separate incident which also occurred in A-one city area of Brewery, Syed Muhammad Ali Hazara of Jamhuri Watan Party (JWP) became severely injured when the terrorists opened fire on his private vehicle while he was on his way from Hazara Town to Alamdar Road. The victim was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment where the doctors have declared his condition as serious.
The terrorists who have executed both the assaults failed to escape from the scene as the furious people in the area had already surrounded them. Subsequently, they hurriedly tried to find protection in a nearby residential area until then the police and frontier corps had arrived to thwart their efforts of fleeing. The terrorists also attempted to exchange fire with law enforcement agencies but soon surrendered themselves without further resistance. The terrorists, who were three in number; were arrested by the law enforcement agencies and then shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.
The major part of Brewery lying in the foot of Chiltan Mountain contains thick Hazara populace whereas the arrest of the terrorists is seen as cooperation and agility of the residents of the said area.
Both the incidents sparked fury among people who came to streets and blocked Brewery and western bypass roads, burnt tyres and protested against government for not providing foolproof security. They also staged a protest in front of Bolan Medical College demanding the dissolution of the Balochistan provincial government.

QUETTA, April 18th , 2012: Marvi Memon of Pakistan Muslim League (N), on directives of Nawaz Sharif, shall arrive in Quetta on Wednesday, the 18th April, 2012 to convey the condolence of her party to the Hazaras. On her arrival at Quetta airport, she will directly head to Nichari Imam Bargah to express solidarity and support with the families of the victims.
Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League’s Chairman will address the public telephonically.
She is also scheduled to visit Hazara graveyard to pay homage and offer fateha to those who have been target killed in recent years in Quetta.
This is pertinent to mention that Marvi Memon – a graduate from London School of Economics – has been very vocal in raising voice against persecution of Hazaras. Moreover, at the assassination of the then Chairman Hazara Democratic Party, Hussain Ali Yousufi; Marvi Memon stood on the floor of the National Assembly and requested all members of the House to offer fateha for the Hazara Leader’s departed soul and condemn this inhumane act strongly.

Firing on a shop on Kowari Road leaves a Hazara dead.
QUETTA, April 16th , 2012: Terrorists have been given free hand in Quetta city to shoot innocent people at will. Salam Ali was working in his tyre shop today when terrorists knocked him off and escaped from the scene. The victim received multiple bullet injures to his chest and neck who died instantly. He has been identified as Hazara whose corpse was handed over to the heirs after completion of medico-legal formalities.
In a separate incident, the armed gunmen opened indiscriminate firing on a moving vehicle on Spini Road but no one was hurt.
The unending ethno-religious killings of the Hazaras intensified in the month of April. In contrast, the perpetrators have been given full authority to kill people at own accord. In less than two weeks, twenty one (21) people have been killed and three others critically wounded in nine (9) separate incidents. All attacks have occurred in densely populated and traffic-jammed parts of the city which are heavily guarded by members of law enforcement agencies. The government has also established permanent check posts in vulnerable parts of Quetta which are manned by the local police and para-military troopers of Frontier Corps round the clock; however, the terrorists may seem to operate stealthily as they remain unnoticeable and thus untraceable.
Yesterday, the Balochistan provincial government announced a full-fledged security plan for Quetta city to incur billions of rupees to government exchequer to root out the menace of targeted killings and attacks of sectarian nature. The government, boastfully, described the plan(s) to be promulgated with immediate effect to provide foolproof security to the masses, nonetheless, today’s two separate incidents directly challenge the writ of law.

This comprehensive plan will incurred twelve billion rupees to the government’s exchequer which will come in force immediately.
The salient features of the Security Plans are as follows:
(i) The plans will meet short and long term objectives.
(ii) In promulgation of the Short Term Plan, the Quetta city has been divided into 20 sectors.
(iii) A committee, comprising of members of provincial assembly will be constituted to monitor the implementation of security plans successfully. Any shortfalls will be addressed immediately.
(iv) To implement the projects successfully, separate committees of the police department and the provincial interior department have been formed which will scrutinize the security duties on daily basis while any shortcoming will be reported to the higher authorities for redressal and in case of unsatisfactory performance taking necessary action against the area police station.
(v) In Quetta city, the police will be assisted by the Anti-Terrorists Force (ATF), Balochistan Constabulary and the twenty (20) platoons of frontier corps.
(vi) Pillion riding has been banned.
(vii) Police and law enforcement agencies will adopt offensive strategy rather than defensive while involving in operations against the terrorists.
(viii) In the Long Term Security Plan, different proposals have been devised to enhance the security arrangements and efficiency of the law enforcement agencies and the police in Quetta and its suburbs.
(ix) Scanner gates will be installed on all entry routes of the city.
(x) New check-posts of police, levies and frontier corps will be erected on thoroughfares.
(xi) 250 closed circuit televisions (CCTVs) will be installed in Quetta city while making sure to equip the police and the levies with arms, telecommunications and transport including all necessary means so that terrorism and sectarianism be eradicated to protect lives and property of the people.
(xii) Targeted operations will be carried out against the terrorists albeit taking support of the people and their representatives in such actions.
The Frontier Corps have assured the provincial government of their full support in promulgation and implementation of the security plans. The Balochistan provincial government has agreed to initiate the proposed security plans immediately. The provincial ministers have also consented to relieve the additional police force of their duties voluntarily who are their disposal in order to overcome the shortage of manpower in police department. They also concurred to take the dark-coloured sheaths off their vehicles as goodwill gesture to encourage others for the same cooperation.

Complete shutter-down strike observed in Quetta
QUETTA, April 15th , 2012: City-dwellers in Quetta steeped themselves in observing a complete shutter-down strike in entire city to disprove the ethno-religious attacks on Shi’ites particularly the Hazaras. Sources confirmed that shops, businesses and markets of all scales remained completely closed while vehicular traffic came to a standstill.
In addition, angry mobs and protesters came out of their homes and blocked the western bypass road for all kinds of traffic, burnt tyres and staged a sit-in protest for hours due to non-arrest of the terrorists.
Notably, the ongoing targeted-killings of the Hazaras earned immediate attention of the members of civil society, trade associations, human rights organisations, political parties and social institutions of Quetta to observe a complete shutter-down today so as to show solidarity with the victims and their families while repudiating all forms of terrorist activities.
In the last 12 days of the month, twenty Hazaras have lost their lives in different incidents of targeted-killings and left three others severely injured. All the attacks have happened in broad daylight in city center and its adjoining business establishments while the terrorists have always escaped from the scenes after completing their tasks.
Lashker-e-Jhangvi, the banned extremist outfit; has always claimed the responsibility of these attacks.

Eight Hazaras shot dead in two different incidents in Quetta.
QUETTA, April 14th , 2012: The ethno-religious persecution of the Hazaras continues unabated in Quetta city where eight people have been targeted in two different incidents on Saturday, the 14t April, 2012.
In the first incident, a private vehicle came under severe fires of AK 47 on Brewery Road; killing six people instantly. The attacked car was going from Hazara Town Brewery to Alamdar Road when it was ambushed by unknown terrorists.
The second incident occurred on Sabzal Road where unknown motorcycle riders opened fire on a moving vehicle killing two people on the spot and leaving one injured. The attacks are well-knitted, closely coordinated and executed by the same group to spread echoic fear and panic among the masses. The terrorists, as usual, escaped from the scenes after the incidents.
The news spread like wildfire in the city which thronged agitated people into street to protest against the ongoing terrorist attacks. In attempts to register their protests and anguish, the mobs blocked Brewery Road, western bypass, Hazara Town and Mizan Chowk to burn tyres and chant anti-government slogans.
News reports reveal that the Hazara youth, women and children took out a peaceful rally on Brewery Road to demand safety and protection from the government. They were holding placards and banners which bore slogans such as “Stop Terrorism and religious extremism”, “Arrest the culprits” and “Incompetent provincial government be dissolved”. The protesters staged a demonstration while chanting slogans against the government which continued for two hours.
On the other hand, Shi’ite and Hazara organisations held a joint press conference in Nichari Imam Bargah Alamdar Road and demanded of the federal government to dissolve the Balochistan government immediately and impose governor’s rule in the province to restore law and order. The members of Tanzeem Nasl-e-Nau Hazara Mughal, Balochistan Shi’ite Conference, Hazara Qaumi Jirga, Shi’ite Ulema Council, Ethihad-e-Tajiran Balochistan, Majliz Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen and Tehreek Jafaria were present in the press conference. They blatantly said that the government and the executive have sided with the extremist organisations to throw Hazaras into a pitched battle. “Our patience is being tested and we are being challenged to pick up arms and initiate armed struggle which will further push the city towards civil war” said the organisers of the press conference.
The government, in the meanwhile, has hastily announced a twelve billion security plan for Quetta city which has also been named as Security Plan for Hazaras. “The Balochistan government shall utilize all available resources to protect the lives and property of the people”, revealed the provincial Home Secretary, Nasib Ullah Bazai, while talking to the media in Quetta. He said, “The involvement of foreign hands cannot be ruled out in these incidents of targeted killings, however, we will take every measure to ensure law and order is restored in the city”.
The incidents of targeted attacks have severely exacerbated the law and order in the city. In the last ten days of April, twenty (20) Hazaras have become the victims of targeted attacks while four others, who were seriously injured in these incidents, are in critical condition.
No arrest has been made so far nor the Balochistan provincial government showed willingness to carry out targeted operations in vulnerable parts of the city to nab the perpetrators.
Lashker-e-Jhangvi’s imported killers are behind these incidents whereas the banned terrorist organisation has hitherto accepted the responsibility of these attacks.

Muhammad Ali Hazara target killed on Abdul Sattar Road Quetta
QUETTA, April 13th , 2012: Ethno-religious killings in Quetta have intensified as another innocent person was target killed on Friday. According to reliable sources, unknown motorcycle riders opened fire on Muhammad Ali Hazara on Abdul Sattar Road who died on the spot while the terrorists fled the scene after the attack.
In the last 72 hours, 10 ethnic Hazaras have been target killed in congested parts of the city while three others, who were critically injured as a result of these attacks; are in serious condition in a local hospital.
Lashker-e-Jhangvi – an offshoot of Deobandi’s terrorist organisation Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan and now affiliated with Al-Qaeda – has claimed responsibility of all the incidents, however, the provincial government’s apathetic attitude to arrest the perpetrators raise grave concern about its seriousness to curb the menace.
A large number of outspoken intellectuals, political analysts, columnists and members of civil society firmly believe that the federal government, law enforcements agencies, the intelligence agencies, and the Balochistan provincial government are involved in the bloodshed of the ethnic Hazaras in Quetta.

Three Hazaras shot dead in Liaquat Bazaar and Iqbal Road Quetta
QUETTA, April 12th , 2012: In two separate incidents of targeted killing, three Hazaras have become the latest victims of ethno-religious attack in Quetta who have been shot dead by terrorists with impunity. The first attack took place on Shara-e-Iqbal on Thursday evening when unknown terrorists entered a local tea shop and target killed the owner and his employee. The terrorists sprayed bursts of AK 47 fire on the innocent people to kill them instantly. The victims, who have been identified as Muhammad Hussain and Ghulam Nabi, received multiple bullets to their chest, neck and face and expired on the spot. They hail from ethnic Hazara minority of Alamdar Road.
In a separate incident, unknown terrorists used a silencer gun to kill Noor Muhammad Hazara in Liaquat Bazaar. Eyewitnesses told that the terrorists, after accomplishing the task, fired in the air and chanted, “Shi’ites are infidels” before leaving the scene.
Different CBOs, political and social organisations have announced a shutter-down strike tomorrow while the traders’ associations have also appealed to the people to keep their businesses suspended and stage a protest against these incidents.
Lashker-e-Jhangvi claimed the responsibility of both the incidents in a telephone call to the local press club and vowed to drive the Hazaras out of Balochistan forcibly.

Six Hazara shoe-makers gunned down on Prince Road
QUETTA, April 09th , 2012: There seems to be no end to the perpetual targeted killings of the Hazaras in Quetta Pakistan where the terrorists, in a fresh attack, have gunned down six innocent people on Prince Road, Quetta. The incident took place in late Monday afternoon when unknown motorcycle riders, equipped with AK 47 guns; opened indiscriminate firing on a shoe-making shop, known as Al-Sadaat Shoe Makers, to kill six innocent people on the spot while injuring three others. The hapless victims’ aged between 17 to 49 who had adopted shoe-making as profession to earn their daily livelihood. They have been confirmed to belong to the Hazara nation.
The deafening gun shots created mayhem at the scene prompting people to run for their lives while the terrorists made their way through to the shop to double-check if the victims are fully dead before making their easy escape. One of the victims, who lost his one eye in the incident, recalled that they were working as normal when terrorists stopped their motor cycles in front of the shop, aimed their automatic guns towards them and opened fire. This caused him multiple bullet injuries to his chest and neck resulting in uncontrollable collapse of his head to the fore-stone (used as a tool for shoe-making) and damaging his right eye badly. He said, “He could hear the terrorists talking, reloading their guns and checking whether their victims’ are dead.” With a sigh of sorrow and frustration he continues, “He may have survived just because his upper torso was drenched in blood while damaging his right eye must also have convinced the terrorists of his death.”
Prince road is situated in the heart of the city with bustling shops on both sides of the road making it extremely busy and congested for pedestrian and vehicular traffic alike. Nonetheless, the terrorists escaped swiftly after completing the task.
The members of the law enforcement agencies and the area police had already disappeared from the adjoining vicinity before the occurrence of incident. Surprisingly, the local police had not reached at the scene even after the tragedy despite the shallow claims of the provincial government to have deployed over 3000 security personnel in Quetta city for the safety and security of the masses. Moreover, the area police station is in close proximity of Prince road which is at a distance of 0.4 miles only but the police remained completely inaccessible.

Interactive debate in the British House of Commons on the genocide of Hazaras in Quetta, Pakistan.
QUETTA, March 05th , 2012:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXNXqPUYgnM&feature=player_embeddedHazara People (Quetta)
6:00 pm
Motion made, and Question proposed, That this House do now adjourn.—(Angela Watkinson.)
Alan Johnson (Kingston upon Hull West and Hessle, Labour)This debate is about the persecution of the Hazara community in Quetta city in the Pakistan province of Balochistan and its aim is to draw attention to their plight. The ultimate objective is to put pressure on the Pakistan authorities to do more to capture those who are responsible.I sought this debate with my hon. Friend Dr Whitehead, who cannot be here this evening because of an engagement in his constituency, and Iain Stewart who, with your permission, Mr Deputy Speaker, will make a contribution. I know that others who have members of the Hazara community in their constituencies wish to intervene and with your permission, Mr Deputy Speaker, I am perfectly happy for that to happen.Like many other right hon. and hon. Members, we have constituents who are part of the Hazara community in the UK. The constituent who drew this matter to my attention, Muhammad Younas, is a typical Hazara: passionate about education, law-abiding and committed to public service. He works for a social enterprise, teaching and assisting those who need his help and making an important contribution to community relations in Hull. We are extremely grateful to the Minister for agreeing to meet us last December to discuss the issue and for being here for the debate today. As we discussed it, there was consensus that it needed to be aired on the Floor of the House of Commons, which is why I am so pleased that the debate was granted today.
There are about 600,000 Hazaras living in Quetta city and many fled there from Afghanistan, where they were a specific target for the Taliban. Hazaras in Quetta are being killed practically on a daily basis and it has been estimated that about 600 have been killed so far, yet not a single perpetrator has been captured and brought to justice.
Mark Lancaster (Milton Keynes North, Conservative)I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman for giving way and I congratulate him on securing the debate. His point is so powerful that it deserves underlining. Does he share my concern that while that statistic of more than 600 deaths and not a single conviction remains, it is very hard to take seriously the Pakistan Government’s claim that they are tackling this matter?
Alan Johnson (Kingston upon Hull West and Hessle, Labour)The hon. Gentleman is right. I have huge respect for the country—I went to Pakistan when I was a Minister—and for the high commissioner, but I believe that that is the key point about the Hazara community: there is no sign of any of the perpetrators being brought to justice, and it is not simply the case that they are being held but the prosecuting authorities are not being successful. That is one of the major issues in this debate and the hon. Gentleman is right to draw attention to it.The response of the authorities in Balochistan has been to restrict the movement of the Hazaras themselves—to forbid them entering certain districts and to apply travel restrictions—and to treat the murders with a mixture of complacency and complicity. Last September/October almost 50 Hazaras were taken from buses and wagons in separate incidents, lined up and killed. The Chief Minister of Balochistan responded with levity, saying in a television interview that he would send a truckload of tissue paper to the bereaved families. That is the kind of atmosphere in which the Hazaras are living. The authorities know that the Hazaras are a target for terrorist groups and that an al-Qaeda affiliate is seeking to make Pakistan, in their words, Hazaras’ graveyard. They state that their mission is to eliminate “this impure sect” and people“from every city, every village…and corner of Pakistan.” Rehman Chishti (Gillingham and Rainham, Conservative)
I am grateful to the right hon. Gentleman for giving way. By way of declaration, Mr Deputy Speaker, I worked with Benazir Bhutto from 1999 to 2007. On the point about the Hazara community being affected, does the right hon. Gentleman agree that it is not the only community being affected? The Christian, Muslim, Sikh and Hindu communities are also suffering as a result of Pakistan’s having been a front-line state in the war against Russia and then in the war against al-Qaeda after 9/11. As a result, radicalisation and sectarian violence have spread from Afghanistan to Pakistan, leading to the murders of Benazir Bhutto and Shahbaz Bhatti, the Christian Minister. Of course I understand the right hon. Gentleman’s concern, but everyone has suffered as a result of the sectarian ethnic violence spreading from Afghanistan to Pakistan, not just the Hazara people.
Alan Johnson (Kingston upon Hull West and Hessle, Labour)I do accept that point; indeed, the high commissioner for Pakistan made the same point when he contacted me today about this debate. I shall say some things later about the difficulties that Pakistan is facing, but that must not detract from the fact that these killings are taking place on a daily basis. The authorities seem remarkably complacent about it and not a single perpetrator has been brought to justice. While the movement of Hazaras is restricted, their pursuers walk freely in the city despite the heavy presence of the police, the army and the frontier corps who all have checkpoints in and around Quetta. The reason for that persecution is not just the Hazaras’ religion—they are predominantly Shi’a Muslims—but their genetic link to the Mongol people, which allows them to be recognised by their physical appearance. Hazaras are also persecuted because have pursued higher education, enrolled in the armyand occupied senior positions in government, the civil service and civic society more generally. They are the kind of law-abiding citizen who would play an important role in a free, democratic Afghanistan and a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan. Thus, they are the enemies of a whole range of terrorist groups. The persecution—some would say genocide—carried out against the Hazaras has been well documented by the United Nations, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and organisations such as the New York-based monitoring body Human Rights Watch. However, there is insufficient awareness nationally and internationally about what the Hazaras are going through, despite the best efforts of the Hazara community and organisations such as the Hazara Organisation for Progress and Equality, or HOPE, which seeks to raise these issues in Parliaments around the world.
The attacks are intensifying. Hazaras are murdered when they stay in Quetta and killed when they try to leave. Fifty five young Hazaras were drowned in the waters of Indonesia on 20 December when trying to escape their perilous existence. The Hazaras believe that the religious militant groups carrying out these killings are state sponsored, and there is evidence for that assertion. The Asian Human Rights Commission reported on 6 January that the Pakistan army had created a militant organisation to kill intellectuals, activists and Hazaras in Balochistan. I have seen a copy of an official letter from theGovernment of Balochistan informing the military authorities and the police in Quetta about the presence of a man called Sabir Mehsood, whose stated aim was to murder Hazaras, but no action was taken to apprehend him. Thus, more than 80 Hazaras were killed in Quetta by this man and his fellow operatives last year.
The international community cannot allow this persecution to continue. There are significant Hazara populations in countries around the world, particularly in Australia, and these countries should co-ordinate and intensify their efforts. I know that the Minister is fully engaged in trying to pressurise the Pakistani authorities to protect the Hazara community in Quetta, and I know that the Foreign Secretary is equally committed.
Pakistan is an old, valued and trusted ally of the United Kingdom and is seeking to renew its democratic credentials after years of military rule. It is a country beset by problems, and its citizens have suffered at the hands of terrorists more than any other country in the world, as Rehman Chishti pointed out. However, the Pakistani Government must do more to root out state-supported terrorism wherever it exists. It undoubtedly exists in Quetta city, and the Hazaras are its principal victims. It is a good place to begin this process.
Iain Stewart (Milton Keynes South, Conservative)I am grateful for the opportunity to make a short contribution to the debate. I congratulate Alan Johnson on securing it. I am happy to endorse all his points, which, in the interests of brevity, I will not repeat. My interest in this issue, and that of my hon. Friend Mark Lancaster, stems from our having a large Hazara population in Milton Keynes. The headquarters of the Hazara Community of Great Britain charity are located in Bletchley in my constituency. It is a close-knit, progressive community, and it certainly makes a valuable contribution to the local community and wider civic life of Milton Keynes.
Stella Creasy (Walthamstow, Labour)I congratulate my right hon. Friend Alan Johnson on securing this debate. Like others, I have a Hazara community in myconstituency in north-east London. Does the hon. Gentleman agree that we can play an important role in supporting the Hazara community in Britain to come forward and raise concerns, and in engaging with theForeign Office in making progress in Pakistan on some of these issues?
Iain Stewart (Milton Keynes South, Conservative)I am happy to endorse that point. My hon. Friend the Member for Milton Keynes North has already met a delegation from the community and the Minister. They are deeply concerned, as the hon. Lady implied, about the plight of their relatives and the broader community in Pakistan, amid what are daily reports of killings and persecution. As the right hon. Member for Kingston upon Hull West and Hessle said, there are concerns that these attacks are not being dealt with appropriately by the authorities in Pakistan. I join him in imploring theMinister to do all he can to influence the situation. Just a few weeks ago, we all commemorated world holocaust memorial day. The campaign this year was, “Speak up, Speak out”, and was aimed at challenging persecution and hatred wherever it existed in the world. This we must do for the Hazara people. I look forward to hearing what steps the Government are taking to address the situation.
Iain Stewart (Milton Keynes South, Conservative)I was about to finish, but I will certainly give way.
Rehman Chishti (Gillingham and Rainham, Conservative)Linked to the Hazara community, the other community that has suffered a lot as a result of radicalisation is the Christian community in Pakistan. We must do everything that we can to ensure that it gets its full right as well. Will he join me in paying tribute to Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali, the former Bishop of Rochester, who is from Pakistan and has done a lot on community cohesion and dialogue between all faiths?
Iain Stewart (Milton Keynes South, Conservative)I am happy to do that. I was at the end of my comments, so on that note, I shall conclude.
Alistair Burt (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Afghanistan/South Asia, counter terrorism/proliferation, North America, Middle East and North Africa), Foreign and Commonwealth Office; North East Bedfordshire, Conservative)I thank Alan Johnson for securing this debate and for his usual courtesy in forwarding to me a copy of his remarks earlier this afternoon. I also thank other colleagues who have taken part and expressed their concerns—Stella Creasy and my hon. Friends the Members for Milton Keynes North (Mark Lancaster), for Milton Keynes South (Iain Stewart) and for Gillingham and Rainham (Rehman Chishti). We all share a passion for Pakistan and supporting human rights across a difficult and complex region. I have met and corresponded with several colleagues in the House on a number of human rights issues in Pakistan and welcome the opportunity to discuss them in a public forum.Last December I spoke with the right hon. Gentleman and his Hazara constituent and was told about the day-to-day living conditions of the Hazara community in Quetta. I had previously met the constituents of myhon. Friend the Member for Milton Keynes North, who raised similar concerns. I expressed my serious concerns about the discrimination of minorities in Pakistan and joined the right hon. Gentleman in condemning September’s appalling attacks in Balochistan, which left so many innocent people dead. Before talking about the Hazara community in more detail, I will take the opportunity to set some of the issues in context, as my hon. Friend the Member for Gillingham and Rainham suggested. Sadly, sectarian violence is not isolated to Balochistan. Tragically, across the country the Pakistani people have suffered from the scourge of sectarian violence. Sunni and Shi’a alike have endured terrible violence, as have other minority communities. I join the Pakistani Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani, in condemning this week’s disgraceful attacks in Kohistan, which killed at least 18 Shi’a Muslims. It is vital that the perpetrators of all sectarian violence, including this week’s vicious attack, are brought to justice.
The United Kingdom and Pakistan have a long history and a strong relationship founded on mutual respect, mutual trust, and mutual benefit. Our respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is absolute, so we must be clear that the security of Balochistan, as with all provinces of Pakistan, is a matter for the people and Government of Pakistan. The improvement to regional security to which the international community is committed requires all countries to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their neighbours.
Although sectarian violence across Pakistan is a growing concern, it is important to note the progress being made in a range of human rights areas, including removing reservations to human rights treaties. It is vital that Pakistan now works to ensure that it effectively implements the international human rights treaties to which it is a signatory. None of the communities of which we have spoken in the debate will truly be secure unless these advances are made.
At the dawn of Pakistan’s independence, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in his presidential address to the firstConstituent Assembly, outlined his belief that in Pakistan there should be
“no discrimination between one caste or creed and another”,
for Pakistan is founded with the
“fundamental principle that we are all citizens and equal citizens of one state”.
I have met many Pakistanis who are working tirelessly to realise that vision today, and none was more courageous than Minister Shahbaz Bhatti, whose work towards peaceful, moderate change was met with such brutal violence. Since his assassination I have twice met his brother, Dr Paul Bhatti, and underlined the UK Government’s support for human rights in Pakistan.
Human rights are intertwined with a wide range of issues, including education, stability and development. The UK’s engagement with Pakistan is therefore broad and strategic, covering education, economic stability, security, and cultural co-operation. The Pakistani Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar, had a successful visit to the UK last week, during which I discussed security and economic development with her and raised my concerns over the rights of religious minorities, including the Hazara community.
We work with international partners and the Pakistani Government to tackle the shared challenge of extremism and to increase Pakistan’s stability and prosperity. It is worth reminding all Members that Pakistan is on the front line of terrorism and makes bigger sacrifices in fighting it than any other country. In the 10 years since 9/11, more than 30,000 Pakistanis have been killed. The people of Pakistan will always have our sympathy, understanding and robust support in addressing terror.
The Pakistani Foreign Minister’s visit to the UK reflects the depth of our partnership and friendship. My right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary held wide-ranging discussions with her, within the framework of our enhanced strategic dialogue, which strengthens practical co-operation between our two countries. They discussed the progress being made to create between the UK and Pakistan a deeper and broader dialogue, including on human rights, which will strengthen our friendship and promote mutual prosperity and security.
The many links between the UK and Pakistan mean that we can engage honestly and directly with each other on many subjects: counter-terrorism, security policy, immigration, trade, development, education and the rule of law. The theme that underlines all that, and the focus of our attention this evening, is human rights.
As the constitution of Pakistan lays down, all Pakistani citizens should be able to live their lives without fear of discrimination or persecution, regardless of their religious beliefs or their ethnic group. I assure the right hon. Gentleman that we regularly reinforce to our colleagues in the Government of Pakistan at all levels the importance of upholding those fundamental rights, and our strategic dialogue enables Ministers such as myself and my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary to do so on behalf of all minority communities in Pakistan.
The Government of Pakistan have taken positive action: they have reserved quotas in the public sector and in Parliament for minorities; they have set up complaints procedures for those encountering discrimination; and they have removed reservations to international human rights treaties. We will continue to support those who wish to see reform in Pakistan, and to raise human rights with the Pakistani Government. As I said, I raised my concerns about human rights with Foreign Minister Khar last week.
In 2011 I twice held constructive discussions with the Pakistani Prime Minister’s adviser on inter-faith harmony and minority affairs, Dr Paul Bhatti. Tomorrow, as some will know, marks the first anniversary of his brother’s assassination, serving as a poignant reminder not only of the need to tackle terrorism in order to support Pakistani progress on human rights, but of the losses that they have suffered. There is a process in place to ensure that inter-faith committees meet in the various provinces. I have seen it in action, and we are keen to continue to support it.
The plight of the Hazara community is connected to the wider regional dynamic. Hazara people fleeing repression in 19th century Afghanistan formed the beginnings of Pakistan’s Hazara. More refugees from Afghanistan followed throughout the 20th century, and Quetta’s population is now estimated to be made up of one third Hazara, with 600,000 in total in Pakistan.
The presence of the Afghan Taliban in Quetta has amplified the repression of Pakistani Shi’a, including Hazara, in the region. We welcome the progress made by the Hazaras of Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban in 2001. It has seen high-profile Hazaras occupy key positions in the Afghan Government. In Kabul, UK officials engage with a range of Hazara interlocutors and continue to promote an inclusive political process. The Hazara community in Iran has also complained of mistreatment, and we will continue to appeal to Iran, including through the United Nations and the European Union, to respect human rights. Those details give Members a sense of how the Hazara community is treated throughout the whole region.
The specific issues of Hazara rights and of sectarian violence in Balochistan were raised with the Balochi authorities and with parliamentarians by British officials in October. Local discussion of those issues has continued since, with our officials engaging with, among others, Balochi members of the National Assembly.
The plight of Pakistan’s Hazara community, highlighted in this evening’s debate, will be recognised in the 2011 Foreign and Commonwealth Office human rights report, which is due to be published this month. Media reports claim that almost 700 Hazaras have been killed in Pakistan since 2004. In 2011, the Hazara in Balochistan suffered a number of major attacks, including on 19 September when gunmen killed 26 Hazara pilgrims returning from Iran. Lashkar-e Jhangvi claimed responsibility for that attack and has waged a sustained campaign of violence against the community. On 4 October attackers killed 13 passengers, mostly Hazara, travelling on a bus in Quetta. A major attack during the Shi’a processions marking Ashura was anticipated but did not occur.
Nawab Aslam Raisani, Chief Minister of Balochistan, formulated a committee on September 22 to probe the killing of 29 pilgrims in Mastung. I remain concerned about the low-key response of Pakistan’s authorities to September and October’s violent attacks. It is vital that those responsible are brought to justice. In the long term we should like to see improvements in Pakistani citizens’ access to justice throughout the country. The House may be assured that we will continue to press on these issues, in relation to that community and to others.
Enhancing the rule of law in Pakistan is vital to improving the plight of the Hazara community. A range of Government work is developing that is helping to improve the rule of law in Pakistan. For instance, we are developing a programme with Pakistan to enhance its ability to prosecute violent extremists, including working to enhance investigations, prosecutions, detentions, and legislation. The Department for International Development’s transformational work to address poverty and education will help to enhance Pakistan’s commitment to the rule of law. The UK is working with our European Union partners and the Government of Pakistan to look at ways of supporting reform and capacity building of Pakistan’s rule of law.
My hon. Friend Rehman Chishti raised, in particular, the Christian community. That gives me the opportunity to say how we try to deal with human rights more generally across the region. Our experience is that picking out one community rather than another is not always the most helpful way to address the issue. Because human rights
is an important issue right across the board, we find that many minorities are subject to these problems. Ensuring that the rule of law runs across all communities and that Governments are devoted to improving access to the rule of law and the rights of minorities across the board means that no minority can be picked out against another and that where there are those who would like to claim that favourable treatment is offered by those outside, that is not the case.
All are made more secure by attention to the rule of law, and all are weakened, including any minority community, by a Government’s failure to address the rule of law and human rights. That is why our policy is so determinedly aimed at the rights of communities across the board, whether it be those under pressure in Pakistan, Christian communities across the middle east, or individual communities such as the Hazara in Balochistan.
Alan Johnson (Kingston upon Hull West and Hessle, Labour)I am pleased that the plight of the Hazara will—for the first time, I believe—be covered in theForeign and Commonwealth Office human rights document. I understand what the Ministeris saying about the persecution of other religions. However, does he agree, that if no one raises the persecution of a specific group, we will never discuss any terrorist targets? Does he agree that it is very difficult to find another religion or ethnic group in Pakistan that has quite the same level of apparent compliance in these murders, with absolutely none of the perpetrators brought to justice? If there are other groups—although this is not a contest to see who has been treated worst—I would be very surprised. There is a specific issue about the Hazara that needs to be addressed.
Alistair Burt (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Afghanistan/South Asia, counter terrorism/proliferation, North America, Middle East and North Africa), Foreign and Commonwealth Office; North East Bedfordshire, Conservative)I acknowledge the right hon. Gentleman’s second point. He has referred to terrifying statistics about the absence of justice. As I said, we remain very concerned about the response of the Pakistani authorities to those statistics, and we will apply pressure in relation to them.In response to his first point: absolutely. Hon. Members are bound to raise the issues of individual communities. The point of our approach is to set those cases in context so that we are not pitting one community against another by indicating that one is treated worse than another, and recognising that the absence of the rule of law and human rights can affect so many people. I think that we are all doing this in exactly the right way. The right hon. Gentleman and other hon. Members are absolutely right to raise certain different communities, as they have today. We are right in putting that into context and demanding justice for all, because unless there is justice for all, justice is denied for those who are outside that embrace. The United Kingdom will continue to work with the leaders of Pakistan and its people—people who deserve to experience a stable and prosperous future, to enjoy vibrant democratic debate without fear of intimidation, and to live in a country where freedom of religion is not undermined by sectarian violence. We have a distinctive role to play in supporting that sort of Pakistan. I am grateful for the work of many Members of the House as we continue to work with Pakistan towards that vision. Question put and agreed to.
House adjourned.

“Two innocent people gunned down on McCongi Road Quetta.”
QUETTA, Apri 03rd,
2012: Quetta is completely in the hands of religious fanatics and terrorists who pick up their prey in different parts of the city and kill them with full impunity. Today, two innocent city-dwellers have become the latest victims of ethno-religious terrorism who were killed in a firing spree. The incident took place in broad-day light in one of the busiest and congested areas which is known as MacCongi Road. According to eyewitnesses, unknown armed-men fired on a medical store which killed two people instantly. They have been identified as Ali Raza and Ali Akbar Biltistani who succumbed to multiple bullet injuries in the upper torso and expired on the spot. Ali Raza is an ethnic Hazara while Ali Akbar was from Gilgit Biltistan but they both belong to Shi’ite sect.
Their bodies were handed over to the heirs after medico-legal formalities by the local police who will be buried tomorrow in Hazara Graveyard, Alamdar Road.
Lashker-e-Jhangvi – Al-Qaeda affiliated group – accepted the responsibility of today’s targeted attack through a telephone call to news agencies.
In the last one week, the terrorists of Lashker-e-Jhangvi have target killed 12 innocent people and injured 8 others in four different incidents in Quetta. The condition of most of the injured is declared to be critical.

“Ethnic persecution of Hazaras continues as terrorists gunned down eight (8) innocent people in Quetta.”
QUETTA, March 29th,
2012: The Hazaras of Quetta have again come under severe terrorists’ attacks with covert support of the law enforcement agencies and the Balochistan Government as eight (8) innocent people including a woman have became the latest prey of the terrorists. They lost their lives instantly while 6 others were critically injured. The incident happened on Thursday, 29th March, 2012 when a Suzuki Pick-up van came under violent attack in Killi Mubarak, Spini Road, Quetta. The passenger van was routinely travelling from Hazara Town, Quetta to Alamdar Road when the unfortunate incident took place. According to eyewitnesses, two terrorists carrying AK-47 guns started indiscriminate firing on the Suzuki Van but the policeman on duty was a few yards away from the terrorists remained completely unmoved. The terrorists, after accomplishing the task, left the scene on foot. There is a also a permanent police check post about 15 meters away from the scene of the crime which is manned 24 hours a day however the law enforcement apparatus remained motionless at the time of firing. Some injured talking to Hazaranation.com generously acknowledged and lauded the bravery and alertness of the Suzuki Driver who accelerated the speed of the vehicle despite being severely injured when the firing erupted. This saved the precious lives of the injured. The driver’s eyes were badly wounded due to firing and windshield smash.
The news of the incident spread across the city like wildfire which brought angry protesters and mobs into streets. The agitated Hazaras thronged to main roads to burn tyres, block roads and chant anti-government slogans. The district police and Frontier Corps deployed heavy contingents at designated places to disperse the protesters who were seen being at logger heads with the protesters themselves. The videos surfacing on social networking websites testify the bias attitude of the law enforcement agencies towards the protesters who tortured, abused and humiliated them badly before throwing them into police vehicles. As a result of the unprovoked firing of security agencies, three Hazara youth lost their lives while 28 protesters were arrested on various pretexts. Our reliable sources have confirmed that the arrested protesters were severely tortured in Kharoatabad Police Station who showed the marks of rifle butts on their upper torso. The arrest of the protesters further infuriated the people to block the western bypass road for all kinds of traffic demanding the release of the detainees as well as the arrest of the target killers.
Pakhtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party, Balochistan Shi’ite Conference, Hazara Qaumi Jirga, Shi’ite Ulema Council and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen called for a complete shutter down strike on Friday, supported by Jamhori Watan Party, Jama’at Ismali, the traders and the civil society organisations.
Later, Balochistan Shi’ite Conference, Hazara Qaumi Jirga, Shi’ite Ulema Council and the Chieftain of the Hazara Nation, Sardar Sadat Ali Hazara held a joint press conference in Nichari Imambargah to give 48 hours ultimatum to the government for the arrest of the terrorists. They also demanded for the early release of the detainees.
The abhorring comedian, the Baloch Sardar and the Chief Minister, Balochistan Aslam Raisani has routinely released a press statement to appease his patrons.

Terrorists’ onslaught on a taxi injured two people
QUETTA, March 28th,
2012: Two people have been injured due to an assault of terrorists on a taxi in Dashth, Balochistan. Five coalmine workers were on their way from Mach to Quetta when their private vehicle came under fire from unknown terrorists which left two people severely injured while three others have remained unhurt. The law enforcement agencies claim to have started a search operation for the terrorists but so far no arrest has been made nor anyone claimed the responsibility for these incidents.

Motorcycle theft thwarted and four security personnel apprehended red-handedly
QUETTA, March 06th,
2012: Organised crimes have touched new heights in Quetta city where the government employees and members of law enforcement agencies have been apprehended red-handedly stealing motorcycles from Alamdar Road, Quetta.
According to eyewitnesses, the motorcycle theft had increased in adjacent areas of Alamdar Road which include Nau Abad, 16 Acre, Syedabad, Hazara Graveyard, Mominabad, Nasirabad etc where the culprits would come in a 4x4 Land Cruiser vehicle, bearing government number plate, stalking motorcycle riders to steal the motorbikes. Several previous incidents in these areas had alerted the residents that foreigners were behind these crimes.
Upon surveillance, the vehicle having green number plate of AD-46-40 was stopped in a narrow lane on Alamdar Road who were quizzed by the residents to establish the purpose of their visit to the area but they failed to justify their perpetual visits. Upon search of the vehicle, TT pistols and the tools used in committing crimes such as pliers, cutters, scissors etc were discovered. The culprits also accepted to be involved in motorcycle theft.
Later, they were handed over to the Qaidabad Police Station where the police interrogated them to establish their identity. They were recognized as the serving employee of Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF), an elite police commando group trained to combat terrorism.
According to our sources, the local police station under the supervision of Jaffer Hussain, Station House Officer, was reluctant to arrest the culprits but the residents’ pressure made them change their decision.

Abduction of a Hazara trader foiled in Suraj Ganj Bazar, Quetta
QUETTA, Feb 25th,
2012: Quetta city is in grip of impending fear and panic, making it unbearably hard for the city-dwellers to spend a day without being hit with intimidation, violence and organised crimes. The unceasing targeted attacks on a particular ethnicity, viz., the Hazaras, are not the only threats to harass and terrorize laymen but the recent trend in kidnapping of the business class of the same segment has gained corporate patronship and support of serving ministers of Balochistan assembly.
A recent unsuccessful attempt to abduct a Hazara trader from a congested and traffic-jammed bazaar of Quetta reveals the hands of VIPs behind such heinous crimes. Mehdi Hazara – the owner of famous Sadaat Shoes – was working in his shop in Suraj Ganj Bazar on Saturday when unknown armedmen approached him with automatic guns and commanded to sit in a vehicle. The trader, instantly, resisted the attempt and started yelling for help. The kidnappers, then, rushed to their vehicle and left the scene immediately to avoid being caught. The eyewitnesses confirm that the white car bore government number plate, depicting MPA mark on the front.
The Trade Associations of Balochistan staged protest against the incident, closed their shops in protest, burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the government.
The abduction of traders, especially that of the Hazara businessmen, has turned into a lucrative business and the abductors confidently perform their tasks for huge ransoms. Dozens of Hazara businessmen have been abducted in recent years, severely tortured, their body parts mutilated to exert maximum psychological pressure to fleecing money from their families. In some instances, the victims have been murdered despite receiving the ransom money.
The federal and the provincial governments have never taken initiatives to protect the lives of people.
Mir Zafar Ullah Zehri, the Provincial Interior Minister, has vehemently accepted the involvement of some provincial ministers in targeted killings and abductions but he could not take any action unless the Provincial Chief Minister, Aslam Raisani instructed him to bring the people to justice.

Three Hazaras target killed on MacCongi Road Quetta
QUETTA, Jan 25th,
2012: The tragic targeted killings of three people have saddened the entire Hazara population. The victims were going home from Liaquat Bazar to Alamdar Road when their private car came under fierce firing on MacCongi Road on Wednesday evening who received multiple bullet injuries in their upper body part and died on the spot.
The unfortunate victims were later identified as Walayat Hussain (a serving inspector at Federal Investigation Agency), Anwar Ali Maulai (retired Accounts Officer) and Abid Ali Nazish (a renowned TV and Stage Actor).
The ongoing ethnic persecution of the Hazaras in Pakistan prompted the Hazara Diaspora across the globe to hold en masse demonstrations and protests last year in October and thousands of people came into streets in 25 different countries of the world to show their full support and solidarity with the Hazaras of Pakistan. Most of the demonstrations and protests were held in front of Pakistan embassies and the respective department of Pakistan Foreign Affairs, through their diplomatic missions abroad, were presented with a charter of demands as well as memorandum, urging the government for targeted operations against the terrorists in Quetta while providing foolproof security to the Hazaras. The Pakistan foreign missions pledged to convey the concerns of the Hazara protesters to the federal government in Islamabad for amicable solution to the problem but the ruthless attacks testify the government’s reluctance in taking action against the terrorist or Jihadi groups.
Although these protests and demonstrations mounted ample international pressure to halt the attacks temporarily, there are no credible proofs if the Government of Pakistan ever made serious consideration to find a solution to the problem.

Overloaded boat capsized in Indonesian waters 300 people missing
QUETTA, Dec 18th,
2011: An overloaded wooden boat has capsized in huge tides offshore Indonesian waters which carried 300 people including children and women. The boat is said to be on its way from Indonesia to Australia which has fallen prey to powerful and stormy tides. The incident happened in early hours of Saturday morning whereas most of the passengers are feared to have drowned. The rescue teams have been dispatched to the area who are supported with aerial search to help the affectees but severe weather conditions are restricting their search operations.
The news spread panic and awe among the well-wishers and the relatives of the unfortunate passengers who availed the fatal risk to reach Australia in search of greener pastures. Preliminary reports confirm that 70 of the boat affectees belong to the Hazara Nation who may have embarked on this perilous voyage from Quetta Pakistan to seek asylum in Australia in an effort to live a normal life.
The Hazaras living in Quetta, Pakistan are under imminent ethno-sectarian attacks from Lashker-e-Jhangvi – an affiliated Al-Qaeda Group – which has been target killing the Hazaras on the basis of their ethnicity and religion. Over 700 innocent people lost their lives so far which include educationists, doctors, engineers, sportsman, politicians, artists, bureaucrats and laymen etc.
According to international human rights organisations such as Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, the FCO’s Annual Report(s), Human Rights Watch etc, the Hazaras are leaving Pakistan in pursuit of safe place to live their lives. Understandably, the Hazara boat passengers must have opted to travel to Australia in order to live their lives in peace and harmony but the misfortune diluted their dreams.
The heirs, family members, relatives and friends of the boat passengers have appealed to pray for the safe return or recovery of their loved ones.

Suicide bombing in Ashura procession in Kabul kills 54 Shi’ites and injures 150 others
QUETTA, Dec 07th,
2011: The annual ritual of the Shi’ite school of faith, which marks the martyrdom of grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him and his progeny) across the globe concluded in other parts of world in relative peace and calm; while the innocent Afghanistani citizens became the victims of unfortunate suicide attempt and planted bombs in Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif and Qandahar.
The major carnage engulfed the lives of 54 innocent people at Abul Fazal Shrine in Kabul and left over 150 injured. The dead and the injured included women and children who were part of the Ashura procession when a suicide bomber blew himself up. Thousands of people were peacefully marching the streets in Kabul when the incident occurred. A traumatised victim Eid Muhammad said, “I was part of the procession when I heard a loud bang, thick black smoke emanated from the scene and we started running for our lives”. Another witness Ali Mehdi Muntaziri, a student of Kabul University, recalls the incident as horrifying and dreadful. He says, “The sound of bombing was deafening, when it happened, thick smoke darkened the sky and indiscriminate firing erupted”.
Every year, the Shi’ites around the world come into streets in tens of thousands on 10th Muharram to mourn the martyrdom of the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) and his 72 companions. The chronicles establish that Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) and his 72 companions were brutally martyred in Karbala, Iraq in 680 A.D by the ruling caliph, Yazeed (the son of Muawiyah). This has become the cornerstone of Shi’ite believe to mourn the death of Imam Hussain and his friends every year on the 10th day of Muharram to protest against cruelty and vice.
Someone who identified himself as Abu Mansour and the spokesman of Lashker Jhangvi Al-Alami – Al Qaeda linked Deobandi Group – called a British news agency to accept the responsibility of the suicide bombing of Kabul, Afghanistan.
Our sources have confirmed that most of the dead and injured belong to the Hazara Nation, an oppressed and under-represented ethnicity of Afghanistan.

15 Hazara vegetable sellers shot dead in Akhtarabad, Quetta
QUETTA, Aug 30th,
2011: The massacre of Hazaras continues unabated as 15 vegetable sellers became the latest victims of terrorists in Quetta. A local bus carrying about 30 Hazara passengers was moving to Hazar Ganji when the terrorists stopped the vehicle in Akhtarabad area of Western bypass, took the passengers off, lined them up and fired at them which killed 15 people instantly while 7 others were injured. QUETTA, Sep 23rd,
2011: A passenger bus from Quetta to Mach came under relentless firing on Sariab Road on Friday which killed three Hazaras on the spot. According to eyewitnesses, the bus was stopped on Sariab Road by the terrorists and the Hazara passengers were taken off the bus, lined up and shot in the upper body part, killing three people instantly and injuring five others.

Ethno-religious persecution of the Hazaras continues in Quetta as 29 pilgrims shot dead
QUETTA, Sep 20th,
2011: The ongoing persecution of the Hazaras in Quetta Pakistan has reached new heights with Taliban-style ambush and killing in the heart of the city in broad-day light.
This time, the terrorists stopped a bus about 25 kilometres off Quetta city near Mastung to off-load the Hazara passengers. The bus was carrying about 60 passengers en route from Quetta to Iran with people wishing to visit its holy places. The terrorists checked the National Identity Cards of the passengers, taking off the Hazara passengers and spraying bullets on them to kill 26 people on the spot and leaving 17 others in critical condition. The pre-planned ethno-religious onslaught was virtually meant to establish the identity of the Hazara passengers before their killing. On rapid circulation of the tragic news, the people rushed to scene to find their loves ones and rush the injured to the hospital. In a separate incident, the terrorists fired on a private vehicle carrying the injured to the hospital and killing three people instantly.
The banned religious group Laskher-e-Jhangvi claimed the responsibility of the incident via telephone calls to medial channels and news agencies. The spokesman of the outlawed organisation said that they would continue their mission and such attacks would be executed in the future too.
The President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan have condemned the incident.
Amnesty International issued a press statement urging the Government of Pakistan to take action against the extremists.
Human Rights Watch, in a separate statement and talk to international media, demanded the federal government to protect Hazaras in the country.
Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and members of civil society have condemned the incident as brutal and inhumane.
Balochistan Traders’ Association called for a complete shutter down strike tomorrow with en bloc support of major mainstream organisations and political parties.
Tahaffuz-e-Azadari Council has announced a 7 day mourning while Shi’ite Ulema Council, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen and Jafaria Alliance will observe a 3 day mourning.
The burial ceremony of the 26 deceased will take place tomorrow in Hazara Graveyard, Hazara Town and the 3 others will be laid to rest in Hazara Graveyard Alamdar Road.
The politician-turned-comedian Chief Minister Balochistan has given opprobrious statement when asked about the Mastung incident in Islamabad. He said that he would send out a full truckload of tissues for the heirs of the victims provided they needed more to wipe out their tears. He continued that 40 people’s murder in Balochistan will not affect the overall four (4) million population of the province.

Suicide Bomber Turned Gala Eid Ferocious For Hazaras In Quetta
QUETTA, Aug 31st,
2011: Today at about 09:30 hours (PST), the adjacent areas to Alamdar Road jolted heavily due to a suicide bombing, occurring on Major Mohammad Ali Shaheed Road. This resulted in the death of 13 people, including 2 women and 2 children and injuring 20 others. Most of the injured are children whose condition has been declared critical.
Bomb Disposal Squad has estimated that 40 KG explosive was used, however, the locals claimed it to 400 KG.
An eyewitness stated that the suicide bomber’s target was Hazara Eidgaah Alamdar Road where the Eid prayers are organised and attended by thousands of people. “He attempted many times but could not enter the Eidgaah Route due to tight scrutiny, then, he aimed for the adjacent road, known as Major Mohammad Ali Shaheed road and blew himself up near Sardar Mehdi Hasan Musa Girl College”, said Muhammad Hussain.
Muhammad Ali, an eyewitness, expressed his grave emotions and lamented that the government is not taking any serious measures to protect the lives of common people, especially that of the Hazaras who have been the main target of the extremist elements since 1999.
“We have lost over 650 innocent people in an unknown battle so far and the number is increasing. We are really desperate to ask the government for our safety as there are elements within the government who are supporting these terrorists”, said another eyewitness.
Chiragh Ali Baig, an eyewitness has reported that the blast was so powerful that left 15 cars completely, 4 houses and shops completely destroyed, shattering windows of the shops and houses and collapsing the roofs of nearby houses.
Hazara Democratic Party, Balochistan Shia Conference, Majlis Wahdat ul Muslimeen, Pashtoonkhawah Milli Awami Party and Jamiat Ullama e Islam have strongly condemned this terrorist attack whereas Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen and Jafaria Alliance announced a 10-day mourning.
Muhammad Raheem said, “The role of Pakistani Media has been limited in covering these incidents. Stickers across the TV screen runs thinly diminishing the news within minutes as if nothing has happened. This bias attitude of the local and national media towards the Hazaras depicts a dismal chronicle”.
The federal and provincial governments have always condemned these incidents, however, no practical measures were ever taken to ensure the life and safety of people. The Provincial Chief Minister – Aslam Raisani’s non-serious attitude towards law and order situation in the Quetta city many a time hit the headlines. His playful attitude to these questions reflects his credibility to run the government.

Terrorists’ fierce attack on a Suzuki van kills 11 people
QUETTA, July 30th, 2011: Terrorists have perpetrated yet another ferocious attack on innocent citizens of Quetta which engulfed the lives of 11 people. The incident occurred on broad daylight, when a pick-up Suzuki van on its way from Brewery to Alamdar Road, came under intense firing of unknown masked terrorists on Spini Road. Resultantly, 11 people including a woman lost their lives while three other were severely injured. Due to dense population, sizable traffic, trading bustle and shops on both sides of the road, Spini Road remains quite congested and busy all day, nonetheless, the terrorists successfully executed their task before managing to escape safely.
The unfortunate victims belonged to the Hazara Nation who routinely travel between Brewery and Alamdar Road area of Quetta city to carry out their daily activities.
The President and Prime Minister of Pakistan have condoled to the families of the victims in separate press statements while the Governor and the Chief Minister, Balochistan, following their patrons footsteps contended to verbal condolences to the aggrieved families.
The attack happened a day after seven Shi’ite pilgrims, who were heading to Iran to visit holy places, were gunned down by unknown terrorists on Sariab Road, Quetta.

A spokesman for the extremist group, identified himself as Ali Sher Haideri telephoned local press and said, “the attack was in retaliation for the murder of Sunni Maulvi Abdul Karim Mengal who had been killed in Quetta in a firing incident the preceding day”.
